Queen Maxima of the Netherlands wears blush pink outfit and huge floral hat in Windsor

Queen Maxima chose a blush pink outfit for the occasion – but unlike Queen Letizia, who was also in attendance, the Queen of the Netherlands did not wear a hat at first, adding a huge floral number for the church service. Fans on Twitter were quick to notice the initial lack of headwear and commented on the social media site. One wrote: “Watching Queen Letizia with a fascinator and Queen Máxima with no fascinator or hat (for now, at least) feels unnatural.” Another said: “I see… no hat/fascinator for Queen Maxima today”.

However others noted that perhaps Maxima would add a hat to the outfit when she stepped out for the church service later this afternoon, which she did end up choosing to do.

One wrote: “I’ve noticed no hat for Queen Maxima. Seems a little odd for the Order of Garter Service, but there is a good chance she just decided not to put it on for the investment & Lunch and will be wearing one for the service this afternoon.”

The rest of Maxima’s outfit highlighted her tall, slender frame. She chose a belted cape dress with a slight v-neck for her day in Windsor.

A pair of blush pink suede court shoes added inches to her height, and Maxima completed the look with a small clutch bag.

She wore her blonde hair swept over in a side-parting in a low bun, with strands of hair framing her face.

A pair of gold earrings could be seen twinkling in her ears under her hairdo.

Maxima didn’t wear any other extravagant jewellery, opting to wear a simple watch and silver bracelets.

This was in direct contrast to Queen Letizia, who chose an eyecatching diamond flower brooch to complete her outfit.

Letizia looked every inch the royal glamourpuss in a black and white Didi dress, £250, by Cherubina.

Mum-of-two Letizia made sure to flatter her figure with the outfit choice, which was nipped in at the waist and came down past her knees.

She paired the slinky item with plain black stiletto court shoes from Prada and a small black clutch bag.

An extravagant black hat with large flower detail by Cherubina, £215, completed the look, slightly obscuring her face thanks to a black veil.

Letizia and Maxima will be joined at St George’s Chapel by the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.

Royal fans will no doubt be thrilled to see images of the three women together, as they are widely considered the best dressed of the European royals.

Kate will attend with her husband, Prince William, and father-in-law Prince Charles. Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, will complete the group.
