Prince Charles news: Researchers reveal the bizarre routine Duke carries out with trees | Royal | News

Royal fans went into meltdown after a team of QI researchers revealed that Prince Charles shakes hand with every tree that he plants “to wish it well”. Taking to Twitter, the researchers behind the popular British comedy quiz show said that Charles, 70, finishes each ceremonial tree planting with a gentlemanly handshake.

The tweet read: “Whenever Prince Charles participates in a tree-planting ceremony, he gives one of the branches a handshake to wish it well.”

Clarence House, one of the flagship British royal residences in London, confirmed the researchers’ tweet.

It told the Daily Mail’s FEMAIL that the fact about Charles was actually in the public domain, published on his personal website.

The revelation comes as no surprise after Charles, in a 1986 interview, famously said he makes his garden grow by talking to the plants.

He said: “I just come and talk to the plants, really – very important to talk to them and they respond.”

Royal fans were quick to respond to the news.

One user wrote: “Once upon a time I would have thought that made him a bit crazy.

“But in the current mad horrible world I read that and think ‘that’s nice’.”

It reads: “After planting each tree, HRH gives a branch a friendly shake to wish them well.”

Charles is known for his green-fingers and love of nature, and the countryside.

Following his admission that he chats to his plants, he later confessed during a special 25th anniversary edition of BBC1’s Countryfile that he also trains his flora.

On being asked if he still spoke to his plants during the segment, Charles said: “No, now I instruct them instead.”

The heir apparent is known to work on his patch of land in his Duchy Home Farm in Gloucestershire.

Speaking in a BBC documentary, he said: “As I get older, all I really long for is to plant trees.

“I hope it will be quite amusing for George as they grow up and he grows up.”

And, in 1985, Charles decided to convert his Gloucestershire garden into an organic patch of land.

Charles’ wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, was last week captured in adorable snapshot with a baby clad in halloween dress while visiting an East London social enterprise.

Camilla beamed at the baby’s cute face as it smiled at her, clad in a pumpkin bib, bunny rabbit hoodie and blue baby grow.

Chatting with Marie Lin Takacs, the mother of 12-week-old baby Clau-Jean Liu, the baby looked on and gave Camilla a toothy grin.

Her trip to East London also saw the Duchess visit Mulberry School for Girls in Whitechapel.

The school is no stranger to high-profile figures, having welcomed the former FLOTUS, Michelle Obama, in 2015.
